1954 Chevy Truck Smooth Dash

I want to smooth out the dash for my truck (1954 Chevy). I'm not sure if what I plan to do will work so thought I'd get some input first. I'm thinking that I can cut away the part that holds my gauges and glove box and build a mold out of MDF and foam. Then glass it. Would this work or am I just asking for unforeseen problems???? I'm weary of trying to weld in pieces instead because I'm not sure I could get the right curves to the metal along the bottom.

The pictures below are not what the dash looks like at the moment (they've been sanded and primered). Its just that the truck is at the shop getting some suspension and engine work and these are the only ones of the dash I could find.
