67 GTO rust

So I've been watching this car for awhile and it doesn't appear the owner is ever gonna do anything with it. Its rusting away, sad story! I see an assortment of body parts available for it but is there anything to look at in specific that isn't repaceable? I see rockers and quarters and fenders and floors.. It looks like a few fenders are bad and I'll bet the trunk and for sure the floor pans..

I would take a long look at : My tools. My skill. My patience. My love for the car. The size of my pocketbook.

It's a lengthy process fixing rust. I hate it. If you really really like the car and can pick it up for a song, maybe. Some stuff is better off crushed. Sinking thousands of hours and many thousands of dollars just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Do you plan to do the restoration yourself or hire it done? Is the original engine/transmission with the car? Is there anything special about the car like a neat color combo or the Ram Air engine option? How do you stand on tools? Do you have a decent MIG welder, any bodywork tools, a set of good paint guns, garage space to disassemble the car?

You can learn a lot by reading, watching experienced guys work and posting questions to the pros(not me) on this forum.

I've restored several GTOs and I enjoyed each one but each GTO cost more than the previous one to restore. Parts are plentiful but not cheap.

We're not trying to discourage you but it can be a huge money pit even if you do your own work. I speak from experience.

Ron

Thanks for the replies. Wasn't sure if parts where still around but it sounds like they are. To me all old cars are money pits, also rust is a fact of life in alaska .

Indeed I have tools and a welder (I'm certified). Its too pretty of a car to just squish.

Gotta finish up my c10 and volkswagen then I'm goin for it.
