63 nova problems

I have a 63 nova that I purchased from a guy in Minnesota. Since I got it I've been working out the bugs in it because he let it sit too long. My latest problem is this; I replaced the transmission pan gasket the other day. I've been working some long hours so I didn't get to run it for about a week. After replacing I cranked it up and had about 6 or 7 lbs. of fuel pressure. It kinda sputtered for a minute but I figured it was because it had been sitting. It smoothed out and I drove about a half mile and stopped at a red light. When I stopped it started sputtering again and it backfired through the rear carb and died. When I tried to restart I had no fuel pressure although I could hear the fuel pump running. I took off the air filter and opened the throttle and gas squished into the carb. But no fuel pressure on the gauge and it would not crank. Is my fuel pump stopped up maybe and it's not getting enough gas maybe? Please help cause I'm not sure what's wrong!!

I start by checking the fuel filter, and then the sock/screen in the tank.

If it's been sitting, I would expect to find a bunch of crud sitting in the bottom of the tank. Putting fresh fuel in and driving it a bit will slosh that crud around and suck it up the fuel line ... plugging the filters.

In any case, I'd recommend removing the tank and getting it cleaned. Replacing the filters will only amount to a temporary fix.
