400 sbc issues

i am having issues assembling my 400 sbc. i am getting contact between my cam and con rod on cylinder#6. i have scat 5.7 inch rods and an edelbrock cam with .296/.300 and .539/.548 duration and lift. i am a first time engine builder and this is really kicking my butt! any suggestions?

A little late now, but a small base circle cam would have been the way to go. You can probably change your rod bolts to ARP's, and/or maybe grind a little of the heads for clearance, depending on how much you need.

If your using the cheaper set of scat rods that do not have the 7/16 rod bolts you may have to grind on the rods or buy the stroker rods or have a small base circle cam ground!!

Do you have the timing chain on with the cam and crank indexed? If not this could be your prob.
