'37 Ford pickup hood center hinge question

The original top cenetr hinge allows the hood top panels to completely fold over on to each other, they also allow the hood pieces to slide apart.

I have a stainless replacement hinge from Bob Drake in hand, and the new hinge is locked together, you can't slide it apart, it also only open about 90 degrees, not 180 degrees like the original.

Was the original hinge locked together with limited opening angle,a nd it is now just worn out? or is the stainless replacement hinge funky, or perhaps modified so the hood panels can't become misaligned?

It there an advantage to one over the other?, other than rust resistance of the stainless hinge.

Thanks,
Doug
