1974 Ford 460 elecrical problem
I have a 1974 ford 460 that is out of a Lincoln and am putting it into a 1979 ford f-250. It is not currently in a veichle. The engine has good compression but I can't get any spark. I was wondering which wires you have to hook up from the coil and the distributor to a battery? I am trying to get it running before April because I want it as a pulling truck. Does anybody have any easy and cheap HP increases that you can share. My main problem is the spark right now though.

spark?
Maybe a shot in the dark: Do you have the "black box" system from the '74? If so, check the wiring hook up as it changed in 1975. I reversed two wires, I think one of them was purple, BUT NOT SURE, Check the different years to confirm wire shift colours, and was able to use a newer, improved, black box and my 390 ran fine. As I said, not positive but the ford black box in 1974 was like a one year wonder at least up here in Canada, Wayne.

you need a hot feed to the + side of the coil. The distributor should be connected to the negative side. That should do it
