Better truck engine for Buick
I'm buying a 73 to 87 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup as a donor car for my '37 Buick Roadmaster.
1) Does anyone know if I'm better off with the '73-'86 5.7 or the '87 5.7 w TBI. 2) Does anyone know what the (actual) stock horsepower should be for each? Thanks Register now (free) or login to remove ads |

In this case, I think I'd be lookin' for an LS donor.

A Vette engine is definitely on my radar.
I just need the truck front steering components and thought I might be able to find used truck that has a decent engine and transmission. Thanks |

SMOG era 350 small blocks are not noted for power the range seems to be about 180 to 210. If you're planning on using the automatic tranny the 87-92 TBI engine with the fully fixed 700R4 is the way to go. The block will not have a roller cam but probably has the provisions cast and machined, so you can update the cam at minimal expense and hassle. It will have the single piece rear main seal which is a quantum improvement toward keep oil in the engine and off the garage floor. Frankly the 37 would be beyond cool with a Nail Head but that's a totally different direction, but I think worth considering. Bogie |
