69 chevelle flat hood

underneath the hood where the support meets in the middle, looks like an X. there is a gap in between that X and the hood.I seen some guys put a wooden shim in between. Whats the best way to fix that?

What brand of panal bond? I plan on putting on por-15 along with the panal bond. Im going to do this work in my garage, by brushing it on. What respirator would you use?

I've been using Crest 3500 panel bonder but I've had good luck with 3m panel bond they come in the two part tube so you need the double barrel chaulk gun check with your local paint store maybe they would have one you could use for the weekend. by the way be sure to check the experation date on the tube I've had an expired tube more then once. I use a 3m respirator the disposible ones and I get a new one for each car which may be a little extreme for most people but just the paint takes about a week in our shop so they are usually shot by the end of a paint job and they only cost about 20 bucks and thats worth being able to breath and not brain dead
