Contact these folks and get all the manuals that are offered for your car. You'll find that the factory service manuals are the best ones out there....

My buddy has a 62 4dr Hardtop Buick Electra with the 401. He loves it. We have put a Crane points conversion kit in it, MSD 6A and a MSD coil. Runs smooth as can be! Yours looks like a 62 by the taillights but I'm not sure.Tell us more about your car!

sell it
Get rid of that thing that is if you want to have any fun buying cool stuff at car shows and swap meets! put in a 350 or any sbc. Its takes a little fabrication and modifying but when you are done it looks great, runs great and its way easier to find cool stuff for it. Let the rat rodders have their junk.

I think Voodoo Car is correct, I think everyone that has a 401/425 Nailhead should pull'em and send them to me, I'll gladly pay the shipping cost
. Ok, I mean really, replace a nailhead ....in a Buick! with a SBC????Now you want to talk about "Cool" looking.....Nailhead with the polished finned Buick valve covers, the finned valley cover, Hilborn elec. injection with the 8" chrome stacks, Vertex looking ignition, stainless roadster headers with just enough baffle to hear that Nailhead "bark" Tgreen....please leave the 401 in there and make the Buick lovers happy. |

........nailheads are torque monsters, sound different and are cool looking engines. Yes they are more money to build. But if you like attention at a show or rod run, you can have 50 sbc's in a row and the nailhead will get more looks. You don't have to spend money on a nailhead to make it go, they were fast in stock form.

Looks like you have a super solid car there, very nice. Yes, that Nailhead is one of the most well rounded motors ever. I have driven THOUSANDS of miles with them and they are awesome motors.
Here's my brothers all Buick 1922 Roadster. ![]() His F-100 with a 401 in it (swapped in back in 1966) and his sons truck with a 401. (Click on photo below) And my Gran Sport with a 401. (Click on photo below) And my truck when it had a 401 mounted mid-engine between the seats! Can you say I like Buicks, oh yes you can. ![]() Brian |

....here is a 425 dual quad with factory cast 2x4 intake, air cleaner, valve covers. It powers my 38 ford coupe. I made up the exhaust , 2 cyls into a 2 1/2 collector , times 4 equals 10" of exhaust sounding through four 36" chambered tuned pipes. Talk about Bark , it is unreal with the exhaust split up like this and the unique Nailhead sound. On the road since the 80's .

I'm glad you mentioned the Nailhead sound. My buddy put a pair of Flowmasters on his Bu and it doesn't sound like any other engine I have ever heard, lol. It doesn't have that "Flowmaster" sound either. It really sounds unique.

![]() tgreen, the Nailhead Buick is an automotive icon. You'll never regret keeping that engine in your Buick, trust me. It's a strong running, good looking engine that's recognised by anyone worth their salt as being a very desirable mill. |
