simple msd question "hopefully"

I got an 82 5.0 stang and it has a 92 engine carb thou my question is i have an Msd distributer#8582 Im guessing probillet, only mech adv...is it possible for me to run that distributer without the msd box, its got the setup for the box two wires red/black and purple/black, with connector. I know it is probrobly possible if I new what those wires were but i dont want to take any chances it a daliy driver.

Looking at Summit racing, it says they do require a seperate box. However, I know the Pro-billet GM HEI is a stand alone unit. Jegs says the same hting about needing to be used with a seperate msd box.
