Simple question

I don't know if this is the correct forum for this question, but here it goes. I have an 8 lug set up on my 3/4 ton and I am thinking about changing that over to a 5 or 6 lug pattern. I know what has to be done, but my question is this. Since the front is disc brakes and the hub and rotor are basically one piece, can I just slip a 5 or 6 lug rotor/hub onto the existing spindles, or do I have to change the spindles as well???
