Check out what Ford is doing to the Black Mustang Club regarding their calendar.

http://www.bmcforums.com/showthread.php?t=42402

post 42 is the first one of real interest.

My take on it is that Ford is really, really, really screwing up by alienating it's fan base. Not a great move for a company on the brink of bankruptcy.

Un-freegganbelievable! What the ?????? were they thinking???? Like was said in one post I kind of skimmed over, if Ford owns all the rights to the images/intellectual properties of their products, anyone who has anything related to the logo/likeness will be in deep stuff. Mustang poop comes to mind.

As a formerly proud GM supporter I'll add this. If Chevrolet or GM Corporate tried this crap with a vehicle I paid for, they'd be seeing it returned to the dealer lot, and be writing me a check for the full price I paid. Look at it this way. If I shelled out $30,000+ for a car, made the payments, then I should own the car and be able to do as I wish with it. They should have zero claim to what I decided to do with it.

I get the feeling that if Ford really pushes this issue, dealer lots will quickly "refill" with returns. They made a huge mistake with actions like that.

In a while, Chet.

Too bad there is no real proof shown that Ford is doing what they say , as that is very unbelievable. It could possibly be a promotion scam for the web site...who knows? The way it looks at this point is... its just hearsay.

Ever since Nasser took over they have been idiots... It took Bill too long to fire Jac, and they still haven't purged the Jac-olytes.

A more intelligent approach would be to cultivate clubs like this.

I just e-mailed Ford's Public Affairs about this and told them the news is spreading. Let's see if they answer.

This is total BS. Anyone even remotely familiar with the law knows that Ford does NOT own the rights to anyone's pictures of their own cars. Doesn't anyone on that board have guts enough to go to another printing company??? Give me a break.

From reading the thread, I think they are going to produce the calendar themselves.

Yes, it sucks what ford is doing.
Ford has been doing this sort of thing for many years, not to the extreme that it has come to now, but all of their actions hve been in the singular interest of "reclaiming their legacy".

I remember when I worked at Poli Form,, seeing a letter from Ford, asking that all of the replica parts with Ford logos be registered with ford, and each item sold would make a royalty fee due to ford. IIRC, it was at least 10 years ago. IIRC, the buy in cost to get a company licensed to use the Ford script or blue oval logo was around 10K , and each item sold put 10.00 or $12.00 in an envelope to Ford .

Companies that went the legal route raised up the cost accordingly, (Bob Drake is one who proudly displays his affiliation with Ford, and his authorized use of the trademark, and rightly so.) while smaller companies just removed any trademarked material from their sales materials or products.

But for every small company that falls off, another one comes on board who gets approval from ford to peddle their stuff.

I wonder what arrangement Powertv has with ford, an awful lot of mustang imagery seems to be present in their materials.

Yes I think it is very shortsighted of Ford to go after the club based materials. But with the legal system being worked the way it is, with the big money getting bigger, I'll bet Ford wins, or at least, will overcome by wearing the smaller organizations down.

What will the outcome be?

I couldn't tell you, but I know that the car buying masses have absolutly no idea that this is even going on. Which means Ford cars will still sell. So will the f150.

How long will it take for the small guys, (club members, internet forum members, small business owners),...How long will it take for those people to bandy up enough strength to push back at Ford, and reclaim the rights top what they bought. It wil take a class action countersuit,(is there such a thing), and I'm sure that the EFF might already be doing something about this. I'll bet that "net neutrality" thing figures prominently in what Ford is doing as well.

So what do you think Ford's next area of attack will be?

Will they send guys like my cease and desist letters saying I can't turn a wrench or take a torch to a customer's Ford car....because I'm defiling the trademark imagery...

BTW, Booger@MSDR, the title of your thread is just a little bit belittling to HR.com.

If YOU want to be respected by the members here, don't say some broad sweeping statement like " Since you guys like spammers so much"

When you came on here , I actually read your posts and was impressed at the amount of self control you had, when responding to some of the harsher comments directed at you.
I actually agreed with some of the things you had to say, and I know that there are some other members here who would agree also.

But that doesn't matter one bit, as long as our different opinions are shared in a civil manner. (I don't always share my opinions in a civil manner, but I don't address the whole group like that)

Now you got some objectional spam from some idiot, and are seemingly putting the blame on the rest of the membership here.

If you use your contact info as your member name, someone will contact you. That is a known risk factor of putting your info out there.

No I don't spam anyone. Not my style.

Later, mikey
