Singer 111W151

My Father passed away in Oct.I have been cleaning up the old place for my Mother.I brought his old sewing machine home today. It has a tag that says 1851 to 1951 a century of sewing and a tag with 111W151.
I would like to do some work with it.It is pretty rusty, but it turns.I haven,t tried to plug it in yet.I am going to oil everything up first.
I have a couple of questions for you folks:
Is it a 1951 model? With the tag ending at 1951 I thought that would be the year.
Can I get parts?
Is it a good machine?
I did a search and found this link. But that is about all I could find. Thanks

I use one of those old Singers everyday at my shop. Nothing wrong with them. Good thinking getting it all oiled up first. Good luck with it. As far as the year goes I have no idea. Wish a car lasted as long as these Singers do. I bought mine from a individual and they gave me the owners manual .It must of been used in the armed forces in WW2 or Korea. Showed how to do parachute sewing and taking the same part off all machines, and destroying if you were going to be captured by the enemy. Tom

The synthetic rubber unit I work in uses old Singer sewing machines to sew up the paper bags of rubber pellets we produce. The unit is going on 40 years old and I know the sewing machines are older than that. One of our old hand machinists rebuilds them about every four or five years. He told me they got them from the U.S. Army and they were surplus from WWII, and were used for parachute fabrication. I will check and see what the model number is.

Thanks for the replies. That is just what I wanted to hear. After I get all his other things taken care of I am going to try to do my truck seat.My Father used it about 25 years or more ago.He did a couple of couches, some chairs, and the interior in his truck.I never did any of the sewing, but I am going to see what I can remember from watching him.Carl
