Sounds like the machine is a tiny bit out of time. This would be a good time to take the head in and have it checked for timing, setting both tensions, and checking for worn or broken parts. They should have a test stand to drop the head into. Let me know if Ariel can do that, it would save me an extra 2 1/2 hour drive. Most places are lost if you bring them an industrial machine.
I agree about it being slightly out of time. I actually checked the timing according to the manual and I come up with the marks about 3/32" off. When the takeup arm is all the way up the marks don't quite line up. I don't know how to correct it. Like I said, last year I was at Ariel and he was working on a Consew 226R, so must know something about them. If I can't figure it out I think I'll take it to him.
