Has any one put a single leaf front spring in an early ford? I have a '38 that I want to lower 2 to
3 inches. Are they safe? How does it ride? If not,
how about a reverse eye Posie spring? How much drop will I get and will I have to modify the steering at all?

I have replaced my old leaf pack with mono leafs that I bought from Custom Classics in Calif. I installed them on my 63 Ford stepside. It lowered my ride by 4". I have not completed the rod to drive it but they feel really firm and I believe it will ride OK. I did not want to change up the suspension much as I wanted to keep the old truck as close to original as possible. This provided an easy avenue for me to lower the frame and get the look I wanted. I also added disc brakes from one of their kits. I did not experience any interference with my steering box in using them. I realize this is a much later model vehicle than the one you are working on, but hope this helps anyway. I plan to do my 36 Coupe next and will look at more options for front and rear end retrofits.

The mono leaf spring will usually ride better . Multi leafs must rub against each other as the suspention goes up and down . FRICTION ! Monoleaf has nothing to rub against -no friction . Plus to make up for a lack of a stack of springs , the monoleaf uses a stack of spacers that you can place on top of or under the spring to get the ride hight you desire . Also , use a good set of adjustable shock absorbers and fine tune the ride. Not much use in having a good riding spring and crappy riding shocks.

46 chassis they dropped 3", using a bolt in
crossmember from Valley Vintage Rods in
Ventura California. Maybe they have one for your
