single-pattern cams VS dual-pattern cams
Single-pattern cams VS dual-pattern cams., What is the difference between the two cams in performance, torque & Horsepower... For my small block i'm using AFR 210cc Competition heads I have 650lift hyd roller spring on the heads. I looking for help if u can explain, which one of the cams would be the best for a Street/Strip application for my SBC 383 engine to get me close to the 550 to 600 HP range to the flywheel but still can give excellent torque on the bottom end too? Just looking for some help if anyone can answer these questions for me, I'm just trying to build a Mean Street Machine...
1. Looking for the right duration @.50 to get me 560 to hp and good torque 2. will a hyd roller cam @.50 247/255 600/600lift lobe seperation 110 get me close to 560 to 600 with out losing bottom end power. Is this over kill for the street even tho its a street/strip engine build |
You will need a solid roller cam to get 550 plus HP from a N.A. 383.
850 cfm,carb or better,single plane intake,probably 11Plus:1 CR bigger tube headers |
2 reasons to use a dual pattern cam.longer exhaust duration can help weak exhaust ports.
using longer duration on the exhaust side makes some cams act like they are bigger than they appear. closing the intake valve soon allows more time to compress intake charge,and generate more cylinder pressure |
Find out what (hydraulic roller) cam these guys are using. At the end of the dyno run you can see the torque is still healthy at around 3500 rpm... D:

AFR heads are great.You have 300 CFM potential.Look at the 2 cams I posted ,similar by the numbers,but the solid appears to have a higher RPM range,,, there are reasons.
Why do you want to use a hydraulic? note in the video the builder states that his carb is good for 20 more horse power when it could say use this carb with "these" parts? you might consider 220 AFR heads? I stepped up to AFR 227s If you want to street drive this "550" HP engine,then consider a 434? |
