Things to avoid
Today's body shops use basecoat/clearcot for a reason. Basecoat paint can be blended easily and zebra stripes or motteling can be "fogged in" to get it to look right. A single Stage metallic cannot be fixed or fogged once it is striped. Gun set up is critical on a single stage metallic. If the guns sprays heavy on one side, you are putting stripes in. If air pressure is to low, you can sag the paint and pull the metallic down. If you are doing a heavy metallic or gold I would suggest basecoat. Clearcoat also buffs a lot easier than color!
