slant six 225 cam choice

I am rebuilding my aunts slant six. shes a teacher not a hot rodder lol.

I need help figuring out what cam to get. i want a smooth idler. it has low compression (around 8:1 i believe maybe 7.5:1) i need new springs valves and push rods and lifters.

it is a solid lifter right now. .406 intake .414 exhaust

will a 252 idle smooth in the 225?

yes, a 252 cam (advertised duration) will have a smooth idle.

ok cool. this is my first slant 6 rebuild and cams still confuse a little bit. so as long as the 252 idles smooth in the slant six im happy i dont want to give my aunt a car that sounds like its doing 50 and a stop light lol

If you clean up the casting and watch your clearances you may give her an engine taht runs better than it did from the factory. I bet that would be a pleasant suprise for her.

I really want to clean up this engine for her. i want to clean up this engine inside and out as much as i can plus paint it for her.

Im upgrading the entire valve train so it will perform much better then it did.

should i know anything about the slant six???
tricks for more gas mileage or performance???

and since the cam is a bit bigger should i increase the timing a few degrees??? the book says (factory parts) at TDC. so maybe 4 more degrees??? i guess i wont really know till i fire the engine.

If you want to mess with timing keep total the same but maybe a few more degrees initial.
