Cant go wrong with bfg radial t/a's. Good performance but not to agressive. Sizes are limited in 14" rim though. 245s are the biggest you can go in a 14" rim if i remember correctly.

With a short wheelbase and no real weight over the rear wheels ... it is going to be fairly difficult to " HOOK UP " with your pickup if your engine makes very much power at all. I suggest finding a set of 15 inch rims that do not scream racer ... and moving to a 15 inch tire. A pinion snubber also may help.
Back in the day ... I found that a smaller, higher revving engine launched better than a large ... torque type engine. In my 69 Nova SS ... I found the car was consistently quicker ( on street tires ) with a 396 or a 427 BC than the larger 454 or 480 inch engines I ran later. Now at the track, on slicks ... the big engines were quicker
