Slip on rocker panels

This is likely a stupid question; but here goes anyway......are slip on parts ment to be slipped on or remove rusted areas? I'm sorry, I had to ask....

yeah, you'll be slipping your rocker under your quarter before you weld it on.

The only rocker part I can think of that slips off are rocker covers, which usually hides rust underneith.

Can you be more specific with your question and issue? You'd get way better responses if we knew more.

I don't remember having heard that term used with replacement parts. I have to assume they mean "slip it over" rust? Not a good way to go but there are times, cars, and owners where it could be the "bestest" way to go, but wow, it sounds pretty funky to me.

maybe slip on rocker cover.. that goes in the top.. to protect the paint??
I remeber them having them for my truck.. so getting in and out didn't wear off the paint..

I'm planning to replace the rockers on my 84 GMC, there replacement panels they said they were slip on rockers. I planned to cut the rust out and weld it from the backside as well as front.

not sure on the wording but think the metal is stepped/flanged so it slips into the quarter after cutting it out. Before you cut it out game plan where you'd be most comfortable welding cause that will affect how you cut it out. In other words, if you weld a part from the back you can save your spot weld bits and drill thru both panels and when the new one comes on you will now plug weld the holes already drilled when taking the part off. Just an example. Just be sure your door and fender are lined up properly cause you will using the door bottom as a guide to fitment as well as the fender bottom being flush with the rocker end. Always check fit before welding.

they are not full outer rockers.. you will want full outer rockers,, and look under the trck at the back side, you'll most likely need inners also.. and now the time to do the cab corners if it needs them..

Thanks guys, that's good advice. I do have the inner panels. I'll see if I can get some pictures before I start. Then you'd have a better idea of what I'm doing.

another point of emphasis is on the lower mating flange of the inner and outer. When you mock the outer to do the inner ensure the surfaces are mating up properly or it will be a headache to deal with. Don't ask me how I know that.

yeah, I think the first two I ever did had that issue, especially the first one. I had a choice between not giving enough metal to the inner that sandwiches between the floor OR live with it not perfectly mated on the lower mating flange. The whole reason was cause I wanted to use the holes on the floor pan that I drilled to take it out. The replacement inner didn't account for the flange length needed to plug weld the holes in the floor, or factory spot welds I drilled out. Wasn't a huge deal but it was annoying.
