Small block chevy intake swaps

I was wondering if anyone has attempted to put a factory 350 (87 vintage) fuel injected intake, distributor, throttle body, wiring etc... from a 1 ton p/u onto an earlier (81) 350 heavy 3/4 ton (non emission) block and what nightmares I may expect to run into or should I just stick with the carb? I really want f/i but not for $2k + for an aftermarket for my plow truck. Thanx!!!

You have to have the correct pressure electric fuel pump and a return line to the tank and you'll have to transfer the ECM, wiring and all the sensors over from the EFI vehicle. Then you'll probably have to have a custom chip burned depending on how different your engine is from the donor and that is a "hit or miss" proposition a lot of the time. For a "plow" truck.............. get yourself a good Quadra Jet with electric choke and take the time to dial it in, you'll be a lot less "angry" in the long run.

If it is an EFI you may have to change you cam to an EFI cam. Unless your taking the heads off the EFI motor, you are going to have to have the 8 Middle holes on the older style head re-aligned and tapped. There are also shims I beleive you can get instead of switching the heads or re-aligning the bolt holes. Like it was said if it is just for a plow truck a good Dual plain intake and a good carb some headers and 2.5 dual exhuast with some flowmaster supper 40's Youll have a nice running unit and have more torque. Sure the EFI will start better in the winter but if you get the carb all dialed in properly and a manual or electric choke setup, it will run just the same.

hope this helps

Ed

RE: intake efi swap

It was the ange of the head bolts I was most concerned with, at that point I may as well swap out the motor or rebuild the whole unit so in short, you have answered my question. Thanx a lot!!!
