I'm putting the parts together for a 1931 Model A hot rod.
Yesterday, at the Sun City West, AZ car show, I had the opportunity to speak to several A-Bone owners. It has always puzzled me that most Model A rods have Small Block Chevrolet engines. The car show guys said that the Small Block Ford engine (the obvious "correct" engine) is too long for the engine compartment. They said that the firewall has to be extensively modified to fit a SBF but that the SBC fits like it was made for the application.
My question: Does that seem correct ? If it seems just blasphemous to use a chev, does anybody make a firewall that will accept a Ford (maybe a 302) ? Should I cough up the bucks and build a "flattie" ?
