Smoking 350

I have a question for the engine guys.. A buddy of mine has a 32 Sedan with a 355 and a 2004R. From day one it has smoked out of the right bank when you hit the throttle, or take off from a stop. We pulled the heads and took them to my friends machine shop and pulled them apart. The guides were fine. So I put positive seals on and put them back on. The piston tops were dry.. There was alot of oil in the exhaust port in #8. The spark plugs looked perfect.. Put it back together and the same thing. So we pulled the motor down and checked the rings.. I measured the cyl walls and they were 4.030 and no taper.. Looked over the pistons and the looked fine. Put a new set of rings on and rechecked the heads.. Pulled them down and could not find anything. So I put a new set of .003 over valves in the heads did a valve job and put the good seals on. Put it back together and it still smokes. He now says it does not smoke until it warms up.. I'm thinking crack in the heads (882)..

Any other ideas??

Thanks Mitch

Did you magnaflux the heads or pressure test them? Have you checked the oil return holes on the end of the heads? if the drainback holes are plugged it`ll cause the oil to puddle on one end and it`s gotta go somewhere, which is usually past the guide. I would think since you`ve had the heads off a couple times you would have noticed but it`s also very easy to overlook.
Is the smoke white/blue colored? is the oil level going down? or is it white steamy colored? if the heads were cracked it seems you would have some coolant in the oil.

Just tossing this out because I don't know for sure. Does a 200 trans have a modulator? If it does, it could be sucking a little bit of trans fluid. The normal vacuum source on a sbc is on the back runner. Just a thought.

Thanks for the quick reply's..

The 2004R does not have a vacuum mod..

I did check the drain back holes and they were clear. We did not pressure check the heads but I did do a visual check and did not see any cracks in the chamber area. I'm leaning towards a crack under the valve cover area. We've changed valve covers thinking the PCV was sucking oil and put stock chevy valve covers on..

Anyother suggestions??

Thanks Mitch
