so many choices

hey guys i pulled the 700r4 trans in my new(old) blazer. ive called several trans shops to see how much to completely rebuild it. Ive got a 383 ready to go in the truck( 325+- hp 400+-ftlbs). some of the shops said theyd rebuild it stock for around 900 or theyd build it with corvette servo etc for 1300 (both with new converter). what is the difference if any between one build and the other and will both of them handle the motor im putting in. id really like to keep the 700r4 due to the low 1st and 2nd and the od. on the other hand would i be ok with just changing pump bushing and seal etc. ok so im an idiot when it comes to transmissions so what.

A good rebuild with a shift kit and good aftermarket clutches should be a touch cheaper than that. I'd shoot for no more than $700 with warranty. $900 for a performance rebuild with warranty wouldn't be bad, but $1300 is pretty pricey.

I expect to pay $600-ish for an HD TH400, about another $100 for one of the four speed autos.

Get in touch with some street rodders in your area and see who they use. If you hear of a get together go by there and ask some rodders. I had my 700R4 rebuilt by a local guy for $700, but I had to bring him the trans and reinstall it. I agree, $1300 is way off the mark. Chances are they are just going to replace it with one they have on the bench that has been rebuilt.

WOW if my trans was good enough to make it down there, I'd be on my way!!!!!!! I was quoted 1600 bucks for a stock rebuild for mine (700R4) I'll have to do a little investigating
