looks to me like the base was applied too thick and way too fast, the metalics flopped over (sunk into the paint) and didnt stand up then a slick coat of clear on top...

Does look like the base is messed up. But the clear, no way to tell with my eye and that photo

Need a picture taken at a steep angle to show the surface detail.

Single stage? Can you get a picture with the camera at an angle to the paint rather than straight on? I'm confused and hope one of these way smarter than I people knows what it is. It looks to me like single stage that was sprayed too dry.

single stage metallic IS the issue. The only guys I know that can spray it well is painters at Maaco. I kid you not. At a decent maaco around here the guy can paint single stage metallic really well, better than I've ever seen it laid down. Plenty of practice on junkers, that's why.

It looks a little too wet and blotchy.

LOL, this brings back a horrible memory. I was a doing a demo when I was a paint rep that I had no business doing, a complete SS metallic on a Granada as I remember. Anyway, I could paint all day long with BC/CC, completes, blends it don't matter, I was confortable as all get out with the BC/CC but hadn't painted any SS metallic in years. I had no business doing it but thought I was a bad A and went for it. Can we say "Tiger stripes"? HOLY COW what a mess! I tried and tried to fix it before I had to give up, it was crap. Had to be sanded and painted over.

Lesson learned.
Brian
