solid lifter question

I am trying to decide between two brands of solid lifters.

One is completely smooth on the outer surface. The other has a shallow groove near the top approximately 1/8" wide that encircles the lifter. Looks much like a hydraulic lifter.

What is the purpose of that groove? How important is is that it be there?

By the way, the two different brands are Comp Cams and Mopar Performance.

Please help if you can. Thanks!

It's an oil groove for oil control when using valley restrictors. Street engines need the cam oil and all out power engines don't because of the higher maintance associated with them.

Thanks for the reply.

So, I should go for the lifters with the groove? The engine will see much more street than strip use.
