Some advise please

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not a hot rod qustion,Abuddy of mine is got a tranny problem. The car is a 1992 dodge spirit with a v6 3.0L with the fluid full no problems but it seems to lose a quart after about 3wks with no noticeable burning or external leaks and he has shifting problems like slippage or jumping aroung 1200rpm, the car is also auto.He did a fluid and filter change 3wks ago no noticable wear in tranny cover, car ran great till two days ago then the problems started again also no visable leaks ang burning, fluid check loss about 1.5 quarts. Thanks all for your help.

some advice please

There is no modulator on this trans,so fluid is not getting sucked back into motor.

But you don't see a leak....hmmm. Check the radiator for signs of trans fluid.

Because of different surface tension between fluids it is possible to have a transfer of fluid only one way.

Cooler lines run from trans to radiator, separate cooler for trans is incorporated in radiator.

fluid loss with no leaks

With the front wheel drive Dodge transmission it has a transfer shaft in the middle of the transmission that has a sealing ring to stop the fluid from going to the differantial if this seal or bearing is going bad it will send more fluid to the diff.and give the vibration, this could be were your fluid is going if you don't have a line leak or external seal leak. But before you go to the transmission check it over good for the leak.

Correct me if i'm wrong. The transmission works well when it's full of fluid, and only has problems when it is low.

we are talking about a 670 or a 604, in either case the tranny fluid run's ALL the way though the tranny with out a seal to stop oil from entering the diff fluid because is all the same fluid. the 404 and early 413 had the seal and separate diff fill. but those are long off the market here

Some advice please

What airworld is telling you is, it does'nt matter which trans is in the car.Just as water seeks it's own level, so shall the fluid in this year vehicle.

It is important to know if trans only has a problem when it gets low on fluid.

Big difference between fixing a leak and yanking one out to rebuild.

As suggested before on another post, you need to qualify the leak.Iwish you the best of luck!

Thanks all for the replies.we are trying to locate the leak but with no visable signs of leakage dont know where else to look. Also the symptons appear only when the fluid is low at full the tranny works well.

That's good news, now please take it to someone qualifed,so they can find the leak. Before the continued cycle of driving it low on fluid manifest itself to a rebuild. The sooner the better. Good luck!
