I know a guy who claimed to have been stopped by the police for doing 135 mph...on his motorcycle...on the rear wheel. First question, How long did you lose you license for? Didn't, ticket was thrown out because his last name was spelled wrong. Of course!
Same guy bought a 85 Z28 new, got the 350-5 speed (although the only V8 5-speed Z was an IROC and a 305). Car had so many problems that it had to be in the shop for 73 days in three months. Dealer could not get it right. GM rep had the car shipped from Iowa back to California and ran it through the assembly line a second time to replace the entire drivetrain and electronics.

This is a true story, but since most won't believe it, this is where it belongs!

When I was 18 I got a ticket for doing 110 in a 35. Cop talked to me, then wrote the ticket for doing less than 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. I aksed if he knew how fast I was going -- he told me no, he didn't want to know, and I should go home. I did!

This was in a small town, just after 11:00 pm (I got off work then) and I was in my older brother's 64 Galaxy two door hardtop (not an XL) w/stock 390 Thunderbird engine. It was knopwn for being fast, and he'd in fact out run the cops heading out of town a couple times. They knew the car. The cop was parked when I flashed by. Some kid in a 302 Mustang had been pestering me -- I'd been driving bro's car for a week while we were rebuilding the engine in my putt-putt (61 Rambler wagon, flathead six). I'd been running my nouth about the car being relatively quick, of course! The Mustang passed me, the guys yelled out some insulting remarks, I started to pass him, he floored it, and I left him in the dust. From a standing start the two ton Galaxie wasn't the best, but from a 35 mph start the Mustang had no hope!

I never saw the cop. I slowed and pulled into a parking lot to turn around and go to a buddy's house. A few seconds later the Mustang goes by with the guys yelling and waving out the window. I give them the finger and let them go -- I'd already proved my point! A few seconds after that a cop pulled in the lot. No lights, he just sat there. I pulled forward about three feet. No reaction from the cop. Hmmm... maybe I should just casually pull off and leave? Should have, but chickened out. So I put it in park, shut it off, get out, and walk over to teh cop. He rolls his window down. I say "what's the problem". I remember his answer exactly: "I don't have one, maybe you better get in and tell me yours." We talked a bit, he recognized the car or he wouldn't have even known what the red flash in front of him was!! I got the street racing speech and the ticket. I remember him telling me that he had to tell me if I wanted to dispute the ticket I could show up in court on a certain date, but he knew he wouldn't see me. No sir, you sure won't!! That's when I got out, then looked back in the window (it was a summer night) and asked if he knew how fast I was going. If he did, I'd probably have went to jail that night!!

There's a guy I work with that was telling me he has a nice Corvette in the 60's I think. he was wanting to sell it.

I started pressing him for details, he said it had a big block and a blower on it.

Okay, maybe it's nice. Hmmm. Interested perhaps.

Then he tells me that the blower can be "turned off or on when needed" with a switch of some sort. But when I asked how that was possible he couldn't really tell me. Is it a clutch of some sort or??? No answer. . . .

Hmmm.

Not to mention it "has nitrous for when I need it." Okay, at this point I'm thinking - how dumb do you think I am here buddy.

Been a while since I talked to him - maybe I should ask him about it again. I bet it's been "sold" by now!! HA!

OK, I remember 2 movies that showed people doing that:
1. My Science Project
2. Some old Chuck Norris film. (Silent Rage maybe)

My memory could be playing tricks on me.

Also the Mad Max movies. Sad thing is that some people figured out how to do it and ran it on the street. Must have been "Ricers- The Early Years".

A simple motor attached to a blower drive and a dead pulley with an on/off switch.

I've never worked on a blower but I wouldn't think air would flow through it unless it was turning.

Very true. They empty out the impellers (the impellers suck air in) and install a carb on the inside or rig up a tunnel ram type setup and mount the carb like normal.

Nope! I gotta' better one

Some ignorant dolt once tried to convince me his (stock) '58 Buick station wagon pulled wheelies. I don't believe he's breeding, in that no (sane) woman would have him, that's the good news.

Back in the mid 80's I was working at small computer company that would refurbish IBM system 34's. One of the processes was to pull all of the outside panels, straighten and paint them. So there was an area similar to a body shop where we had three guys that did computer panel body work. They were all car guys. Since I was a car guy as well we would BS after work. Here is a story that I heard that I still remember to this day.

Victor, the lead painter, claimed that he was helping a buddy try to find a problem with his 350 cutting out at about 50 MPH. Since it only happening at this speed they had to troubleshoot it at 50MPH. What he said they did was pull the hood off of the car and take it out for a drive. After getting the car up to 50 MPH, Victor climbed out onto the fender and started adjusting the Carburetor. Since that didn't correct the problem, he then pulled the plugs and started changing them one at a time until he found the bad spark plug. That fixed the problem. This all happened on a running small block 350 at 50 MPH in the engine compartment of a 73 Camaro.

I just looked at him, nodded my head, smiled and said wow......

No No No Dude It Was Flames!!!

i was at a buddies house helping him move stuff around and some how the subject of hot rods. one of my buddies long time friends came out and told me this story about how he was putting headers on his truck (never mentioned what kind of truck). he said once he got off one of the old exhaust manifolds he was cleaning the spot for the gasket when his sister was cleaning the inside of the car and accidentally started the truck... before i go further how do you accidentally start a car??? wouldnt you make a point to put the keys in ur pocket or somewhere else other than the ignition when your doing something like that??? anyway he said when the car started it shot out 7 foot flames and burnt off some of his hair! last time i checked the only vehicle that can shoot anywhere close to 7 foot flames is a funny car. so that part right there made me laugh right in front of him. he thought i was laughing at that fact it supposedly burnt off his hair. nope i was laughing so hard cause that could never happen from a strictly street driven truck! small flames maybe but not 7 feet of flames! well he told me after he cleaned up and was done yelling at his sis for doing that he got both the headers on and done. here i think the story is done... well next he said he started it up with open headers at night and had a steady blue glow under the car. i said oh neon lights thats alright thats kinda cool. he popped of NO NO NO DUDE IT WAS FLAMES!!!! i just shook my head and walked away.

I was BSing with a guy in a parkinglot back when I changed tires for a living. We were talking about tires for his jeep, I think he was trying to get a good deal by showing how much of a "car guy" he was. He mentioned having a "limited edition" '03 mustang with the "factory nitrous."

He didn't get a very good deal on tires that day.

Not too long ago I was watching that TV show where the cops are chasing guys at high speeds on highways and whatnot, the guy was on a motorcycle, and was running from the cops of course, and the dude that narrates the stories on that show says "The desperate criminal was on a motorcycle that has over 400 horsepower"
It was a stock 4 cylinder crotch rocket, looked to be a honda, so it made me wonder where did he get the 400 horsepower figure? Did he see it get dyno`d? A 100 horsepower per cylinder? How did the cop cars keep up with it as easily as they did as shown on the video camera? I just shook my head, even the TV guys have to tell BS.
