Some pics of some old Soviet iron

These cars were very uncommon, when they was in production, since they built for big party bosses…

This car later acquired official name GAZ-12, but at time this plant was named “Завод имени Молотова” (Molotov auto works),so it’s simply called ZIM. Mostly high-ranked army generals used this Car.
Under hood- 90hp straight six.

GAZ-13 “Чайка (Seagull)”. Government limo. Powered by 6-liter big block V8. Just 195 horses, but torque must be respectable, because same engine used on 3-ton trucks. Car was in production 20 years, but only 3000 was built.

ZIL-111, analog of president’s limos. Have same 6-liter big block V8.

Not sure, but I think that most similar on '56 is that one:

If yes, it powered by 6-liter V8, detuned version of engine, which limos have. OHV,iron block/aluminium heads, 1 duece,76 octane fuel. Gas saver.

It's a good question. As for sedan, looks like you're first.who said about Mercury. More common version - design was inspired by Packard Patrician. However, because it has torsion front suspension as well as pushbutton 3-speed automatic,I would think that powertrain design inspired by mopars
