Gene Winfield built a custom something like that.. called the illusion? maybe,, don't know for sure,, and Dave Phule ?? [not sure that is the correct spelling] built a car with a canopy like you mentioned and it kinda resembled a jet plane, both were red,, but I think they were built earlier than the 90s,, but when you get as old as I am the decades all run together,, and pretty fast too,

I don't remember the name but I'll ask at work tomorrow- the company I work for built the trailer for this car. He came by the shop one year-(I think he was going to the Autorama) and let us take a bunch of photos and he also fired it up & drove it around the parking lot. I'll look for more pics- I got some closeups of the engine.
Last time I spoke with him, he was getting repair quotes on his trailer-and he told me that they were involved in an accident and rolled the truck & trailer with the car in it. They were fine but the car had alot of the body damage and the rear wing went through the roof of the trailer.
It was a really neat car-

An old co-worker (Martin Senour rep, later went to Evercoat) did a bunch of work on it. I saw it at the Oakland Roadster show, it had a Lexus motor. I forgot the details but as I remember the body was hand made fiberglass and it had MANY gallons (dozens as I remember) of polyester primer on it. It was blocked with "Stink block" and many more gallons of primer.

It was kinda cool, as I remember it had a real jet fighter canopy on it.

An old guy like you should know. :) It was very popular years ago, but it is still available. It is a "pummus stone" looking thing, black, about six inches, by two feet by 18 inches. You cut off with a saw what you need and then you just start rubbing on the plastic filler on the car. It shapes it's self to the shape of the car. So, after some sanding it starts taking on the shape of the bodyline or what ever you are sanding on.

The "stink" comes from it smell, the stuff stinks.

I'm just gonna ignore the haters-

The car was named LE-1 Ground Fighter built by Wally Larson
Super charged Lexus motor running on Nitro/Methonal = 2000hp
It was featured in the March 1997 Hot Rod magazine-
I scanned the article:
