Soon to be mine! Let me know what you think.

This is my mother's 1960 Corvair. She has had it since I was a kid. She is giving it to me this year, so I will be driving to Colorado this summer to pick it up when the roads are a little better. It has some heater problems, so I will need to get that fixed before the Wisconsin winter hits next year. I think the rims will be the first thing I will change.

I like it. If it was mine I wouldn't worry about the heater problems. It would be spending the winter in the barn between my 41 Chevy and my 69 Lincoln. You might consider looking for some old beater to drive in the winter.

I agree with CrashFarmer2, I wouldn't subject that nice of a car to the hazzard's of winter. It needs put up for the winters.

That's a cherry car, keep it indoors in the winter, like these guys say. Alls you need is some fuzzy dice... and it will be complete.

corvair....

HI,ive had a bunch of corvairs,love them.there is a company that USED to make a set of V shaped springs to go on the lower control arms the company name was HELLWIG.,to keep the tires from tucking under in a hard trun.i would definately try to find a set.maybe clarks corvair could help. makes all the difference in handling.

Corvair

I had a couple of them myself. Never will forgive Ralph nader for killing them.
They are great in the snow, especially if ya throw a cement block in the trunk up front.
I also would put it up for the winter though...it's too nice to trash. Find a "winter rat" and save the Corvair.
AS for the heater......as I recall, the heater box wrapped around the exhaust manifold. If you had a mild exhaust leak, the fumes would get pumped right inside the car thru the vents under the back seat. Keep that in mind.
If it's not heating, maybe the heater box is trashed (no water to heat in this one). Maybe someone worked on it and decided to remove the box or the fan is just trashed.

I've got 2 late models now... a '65 Monza convertible and a '66 500 coupe. My first car was a '61 Monza 900 coupe. The 60's had a lot of unique parts that weren't used in the later years. It looks really good, particularly for a northern car.

In Corvair circles, you'll be known as a "Caveman".

That is a cool ride. You must drive it your self and you will find out it is a nice car. It just got badmouthed to death years ago. Same as the Streetbeast does here. The power of the press has killed more than just cars. good luck with it and keep them old cars running.

1960 Corvair........

BTW,that is a 1960 Corvair MONZA,Rare car,not many monzas made in 1960,and that car has a GAS FIRED HEATER,not heat off of the engine...

air flaps.

The first thing to check is the bellows-linkage that control the rear air circulation flaps. If those go bad the engine will overheat, burn pushrod seals and fog oil on the back.
I had a 61 Monza, More chrome on the interior, and 2 corvair powered dunebuggies, On The last buggy I machined the intake manifold surface on the heads, added 2 more carb flanges then made a spider leg manifold and ran a holly 2 barrel, It would pull the front wheels up in second gear.

I got to drive home one of the first Pinto protypes with a 1600 CC engine. I thought what a gutless wonder. My daily driver to Ford was a buick nailhead powered Willys. And the Pinto gas tank problems. The question was asked how much was it going to cost to fix times vehicles to recall VS how much does each lawsuit death cost. The decision was let them burn, it's cheaper. and the 70's ford C6 jumping into reverse and running over people getting out of their cars. I showed how that could happen and was told to be quiet.
