Is this the sound of a broken speedo gear?

My turck is a 84 c-10 with a turbo 350 stage 2 shift kit. rebiuilt with a B&M kit.

I was driving along today and hit a terrible bump and notice my trucks speedo stops working I was thinking mabey the cable had popped off behind the dash but after I dropped my friend off I rolled the window down and turned the music down I could hear this constant whine. The best sound I can compare it too is a gear drive timing set
It only makes this sound in drive' not reverse or neutral. It is full on tranny fluid and it dosen't smell burnt or look discolored.

I am thinking this might just be the speedometer gear and it got ate up. Does this sound like what could be causing the problem?

You might want to look under the truck and see if the cable came out and got hung on something.JMO I have never heard one whine like you are saying anyway.

Hummm!!!!!!!!! I don't know unless it's the pump or converter making a noise i have heard them whine before, and you don't think it might be a rear gear whine do you ?

I jacked the rear end up bloacked the front end and let it run in gear and it is definately coming from the transmission and now that you say the convertor or pump that sounds about right the noise did seem to come more from the front of the tranny. I just thought it might be the speedo gear since the speedo went at the same time.

You said it only does it in drive not reverse or neutral, I was thinking do you still have the dust shield on the trans just wondering if something could have bent it or something and it's rubbing, And by it just doing it in drive could be to the difference it the twist of the engine when in other gears reverse and neutral. Be cheaper and easier then the pump or something never know you could get lucky. I hope you do anyway. I just hope it's nothing serious.

There is no dust sheild . I was thinking mabey my motor mounts are shot and it has caused a bind in drive and worn my pump. Im going to call the guy who rebuilt my tranny tommorrow and see if he can figure out what the problem is.

It is really killin me that all this is happening because I just had it rebuilt in june/july.

Im glad I haven't blown the money on the valves to put airride on my truck yet I might have enough money to fix it!
