Spark Gap Recommendation

I am running 0.045 gap on my vortec headed 383 with about 9.5 scr. I have a skip supplied HEI with supposed 65000 volt coil and moroso 8mm wires. i am running AC R44LTS plugs and have a base timing of 16 btdc, 221/230 duration cam @ 0.050, eddy 1405 carb, headers. A friend told me that 45 is too much. What would be correct for this application? What are some of the effects of having too much gap?

The higher the cylinder pressure, the more difficult it is to get the spark to jump across the gap, resulting in mis-fire. Also, the wider the gap, the more difficult. I have had no mis-fire problems with street/strip motors running at 0.045" to 0.050" with an HEI.
