I will make a note of that for D.

The only trouble I remember ever having with Champion plugs was in my old 292 I-6 that would barely run on RN12Y's because the piston domes beat the gaps almost shut. I, too, fixed it with some kind of Autolites with a more retracted gap.

I have been watching the other forum:
Here is David Vizard's response to this question:
http://www.gofastnews.com/board/tec...part-3-a-2.html

David Vizard quote/ copy and paste
The only comment I have here is that we started and warmed the engine on regular extended nose plugs and then change out to the race plugs ( I have done this a time or too and it is far from my first rodeo) it was not until we had flooded the engine toward the end of our search for the problem (after flooding no attempt to start the engine was made as I was fully aware that in those days cold running plugs fouled easily and would fail to start) that we changed the plugs. However fouling the plugs was not the issue as our Sun scope showed every cylinder (all 4 of them) was firing. Like I said this was something of an anomaly - I have had nothing happen like it before or since!

For what it is worth we have had virtually 100 % success at cleaning race plugs by dropping them in acetone and stiring them around awhile then blowing them off with a 'dry air' air line. I don't know what the poster on the other site was using but by 1966 we were building electronic ignition systems that would fire some pretty disgusting plugs!

I'll have to try the Acetone trick next time I foul a plug. I've never tried Acetone specificaly to clean a fouled plug. Non of this shows that a Champion brand spark plug is somehow inferior or unsuitable for this vortec motor or any other motor thou.

Everything David Vizard writes is always interesting and informative.

Quote DV: "Like I said this was something of an anomaly - I have had nothing happen like it before or since!"

I'll modify my statement a bit. A fouled spark plug will not recover once it is fouled without specific specialized thorough cleaning (try acetone). Your success at cleaning them may vary.
For 99% of the plugs you and I use, its most likely more cost effective and time effective to just replace them with new ones and move on.
Another nice thing about Champion spark plugs as a brand is they are reasonabley priced.

Good, we are in agreement as to where we stand.

All the bad ones I take out after a week or two, I will have the car owners mail them to you.

As for me..... well, I wouldn't use a Champion if they were free.

My buddy said he pulled out 2 sets of Champions this week, that other shops installed them less than 3000 miles ago and the cars were missing already, and the owners brought them to him to fix.

If the car is killing plugs, there is something wrong with the car or the plug is the wrong heat range.
