Special Order Paint from the Factory in 1968 - Records

On my '68 Ranchero, the paint code on the door's data plate is blank and there is a DSO instead (I think I'm reading this right). Someone told me that there will be no record at Ford of what the original special order paint would have been and I'm out of luck trying to find it.

I have my heart set on painting it the color it came with (Mom repainted it in 1998 but it's wasn't right and is now way lighter than the original). Is there a way to find it?

Through looking at paint chips online, it looks like (though it may be my monitor settings) Midnight Orchid Metallic Code K - a color that was used on the 1969 Ford Thunderbirds. They wouldn't have used a 1969 production line color on a special order paint for a late year production 1968 Ranchero, would they?

Any thoughts, tips or advice?

Thanks so much!
Kristen

Hard to say what was the production month?? If it was a later month in 68 chances are it could have been painted with a 69 color.

There is a company that has access to all of the records that Ford has on the older vehicles. They can provide all types of information on that vehicle from the VIN. I am not sure of the site, but believe it was KULTULZ that posted it recently for someone.

You guys are AWESOME! Thanks so much for the responses! I'll check out that site when it's back up online - they were having server issues...lol...it figures.

I've gone and put my notes away for safe keeping since I posted this...ugh...and the car is at my friends shop but I think it was October if I recall right.

Anyway BIG THANKS to you for taking the time to help me out! I appreciate it!

Kristen
