Spec's on 4.3 chevy extreme engine

What is the difference between the standard 1999 4.3 engine, and the one in the extreme edition of the S10 trucks. Some say the extreme engine was a 200hp engine compared to about 180hp on the standard.
I have a chance to get one at a good price, but I don't know if the casting number for that engine is different, or how would you know from looking, how to tell them apart. Also what makes the extra HP difference, heads or cam and etc? Thanks.

The Xtreme was an appearance and suspension package for the 2wd S-10 just as the ZR-2 was for the 4x4 S-10 (lifted with larger tires). They had both 4 cylinder and V6 engines. There was no special engine for the Xtreme, they were the same as the other models.

the engine was the same
180hp and 200 hp engines were an option in any late S10

Yeah, I think yall are right. I spent about hour and half researching that, and I came to the same end as you did. I have three, 4.3's, and the two I am using are the 200HP engines. I think the different fuel sys. is the main reason for the increased hp. The ones with the cpi sys. are 200hp, the tbi is 180.
It may have changed after 1995 though. Also the CPI engines have the balance shaft. Some call this the vortec engine before 1996. I think will just use what I have. Thanks a lot.
