speedo cables?

Are speedo cables and speedos like universal? i have a 460 with a c6 trans in an xj6 jaguar, the jaguar has a cable speedo im just woundering how i would go about setting a speedo up?

are cables universal could i just buy like a c6 trans speedo cable and plug the cable into the back of the jaguars speedo and will it work? and would it be around the same speed or would it be out by miles?

any advice and help on getting a speedo would be good =]

iv ordered water temp oil pressure and rpm gauges im just not sure how to sort out speedo..

this my first project car

i bought a universal cable from autozone and hooked it right up to my 1981 c6 and my 1940's chevy logging truck speedometer.
the nylon gear for the tranny end is color coded to give the speedo different readings.
and you can buy them on line for cheap.
everything worked just fine

Awesome thanks do you know how i would know what colour gear ill need to get the correct reading from my speedo?

i have 3'00 gears in the rear and a 28" tire
and using the brown one i am reading 5 mph fast
i figure thats close enough for the girls i go with....

check the rotation of the cabel comeing out of the 460 trans vesus the jage spedo examp. 1956 ford spedo turns op direction to 1957
