speedomeeter gear 350 turbo

im having problems with my speedometer gear / driven gear to wear out? I have a 350 turbo and my speedo cable wont turn because the driven gear is wore out. so i replaced it with a new one and tested it in the car for a few minutes. result were the cable still didnt turn unless i pryed down on gear housing. so pulled driven gear back out and it was chewed up on one side all the way around. so does the problem lie with the drive gear? my drive gear is a 10 tooth and the driven is a 19 tooth.

so today i took the tail housing off the trany to replace the drive gear. i removed the drive gear and find that the clip that locates the drive gear is broken allowing the drive gear to be pushed to far forward . causing the two gears to not seat properly. so i replaced the clip and problem fixed.
