You can put splayed caps on, but you also can buy stock-style main caps in billet steel. These are plenty strong. Oliver, Callies makes these.

I believe in order to use splayed caps on a factory block, you must start with a 2 bolt main block and have it machined for the splayed caps. If you have a 4 bolt block, you should use the straight bolt caps. You will need to have it align bored. Hope this helps.
