Im thinkin about buying a spool for my ford 9 inch and im wonderin peoples experience using it before i buy it. Im driving daily racin on the weekends.
I just want to know if im gonna bust my axles, or if the spool is gonna break immediately down the line or what?? please help..
lockers, and limited slip diffs have there place. a lockers place isn`t on the street. a used to be friend of mine went this route, after breaking 3 diff`s in half and richmond ring and pinion sets missing teeth, he got the idea. for track use there okay, only if they see track use, I wouldn`t drive a locker on the street period due to safety reasons.
It will eventually twist off the axle ends, factory axles are soft and don't work well with a spool. A set of Strange axles will last considerably longer if not indefinitely on the street.

Actually... race style axles won't take the pounding and abuse that street duty will put them through. Because they are tufftrided or hardened they will snap off at the axle bearing. Been there, done that. Use a standard street duty axle for your daily driver and any good posi or limited slip unit is way better then a spool on the street...

A question, Mark (or anyone).
I know a limited slip has a (kind of) clutch package, but what is a posi? Only asking to keep up with the english technical terms

Another route to go here is 'high strenght' street axles. I had a set custom made by Moser for the '56 Olds rear end in my Willys. Stronger than stock but won't disintegrate in day-to-day use like racing axles do.
