sportcoupe

HI have a 31 chevy sport coupe that I am building into a street rod. If I new how to add a pic i would but for now I am trying to figure out what would be the best seat for the car. A bench or buckets. there isn't much room. the widest seat I can install would be about 39". I'm sure other people have had this same issue. any suggestions would be helpful. thanks phil

If you only have 39", you will have to use a bench seat, and probably have to make it yourself. Are you sure about the measurement, that seems awfully small?

Hey welcome to the site, that's a nice looking rod ya got there. I went through the same thing on my 34. I even bought a couple of OEM bucket seats and mounted them in the car, but was never really thrilled about them. Then my wife and I went to the NSRA Nationals in Louisville and I saw a display by Tea's seats. I had looked at them online and they looked like a good seat, but a little pricey I thought. Well my wife plopped down in a bench seat with split reclining backs and that was all it took. We ordered a seat at the event right then. These seats are not cheap, but there is no other seat on the market that is as comfortable or fits the car it was designed for. The small cab of your car IMHO necessitates a bench seat. You can get a bench seat with a lift up bottom for storage. The seat we bought was $2100 upholstered in gray leather. Yes, it's a lot of money, but you probably will be spending a lot of time in your coupe so you might as well be comfortable.

Vince

thanks for the suggestions, The Tea seat sounds nice but the price is too much for now. And I do have 39" from inside rocker panel to panel and more room as the seat widens out further back in the cab. I was hopping to use maybe a seat from a Caravan or something like that if any one has tried it. p

I measured between the doors, i might get a couple of inches more due to the curve of the body at the widest point. I was thinking about a center seat form a mini van?

That might work, but again, you'll need to measure one.

The new Cavalier seats look a lot like the tea's bucket seats. They should fit well in that car..For a lot less $$$$..

Here's a set in my rat rod..I buy these at pull-a-part for $45.00 a set..I buy all they have too..
