I did get a clarification on the disposal of the filters just now from my boss. We can throw them in the trash because they have been tested! We have to have them tested every five years for what nasties are in them. They have passed so they can be thrown in the garage, maybe your boss needs to look into that?

I sure don't like polluting myself, I recycle oil, paper, metal, etc however it sucks knowing that large companies just dump waste water into local rivers.
California is so polluted there's smog over it 24/7. How come there bureaucrats didn't get together decades earlier and made a plan to prevent all this pollution.
We're running on 10% ethanol gas and gas prices are not down like they said they would be cause of "renewable source" <-- bunch of bs.
They're trying to run same laws up here as they did in California.

It appears that Spokane County is following King County's lead in this area of discussion.

Does you waste contain HOC? If so your boss might be spendy wisely, EPA fines are pretty spendy.
The law allows you to collect the fine if the EPA does not assess the fine for a violation.
There are firms around the country that do this full time.
They look for know violations, contact EPA, if EPA does not cite the owner,then the firm files suit and they get to keep the fine.

I had some training in this field as my employer generated quantities ( thousands of gallons a week) of hazmat and my dept had to handle, store, and ship it.
IF you ever get a letter inviting you to an EPA party, look and see who else is invited, and hope their pockets are deeper than yours, because he who can pay will pay.

yet BPA can handle their own clean up in the Gulf and disperse whatever chemical they feel like to break up the oil to hide it. Gotta love it!

We have Hanford, America's biggest nuclear waste facility (2 hours from here) and it's leaking. EPA is not going after it, they actually said "does not possess a serious threat" or some bs like that.

This type of Government not practicing what they preach is evident all over. When, for environmental reasons, we needed to switch from R12 to R134A Refrigerant in our cars to save the environment, the air force was hosing down fighter jets with R12.

In Canada, again to save the environment it has been mandated that all body shops switch to VOC compliant water born paint...When body shops do paint work, most often it doesn't involve painting the entire car, it may mean putting color on a fender, bumper cover, blend the hood and blend the adjacent door to the fender. This would mean that the body shop would mix a little over a pint of paint to paint the repaired area. Once the base is applied, very often the paint requires blowers to gently move air over the freshly painted surface in order for it to dry. Where does the power come from to compress the air to go through the blowers to dry the paint. More often than not it comes from a fossil fuel burning plant. We still need to clear the bumper cover, hood, fender and door with isocyanate solvent based clears. Yes they have reduced the amount of VOC's in the clear coats however, when you factor in the cost difference between VOC compliant base coats and clears regular based base coat and regular solvent based clears and the fact that we are using more energy to dry the product, base and clear...(some VOC compliant clears require a higher metal temperature to bake and cure the clear than regular solvent based clears)...plus not mention the cost of switching over to water born VOC compliant products...is there a saving or is it another ploy for Governments to say "look at what we're doing"?

On the other hand, I like water born, other than dry times on humid Summer days and from what I've seen, color match is superior and when applied properly it does lay down flatter than solvent based products. VOC compliant Clears...well that's another story that some manufacturer's need to work on.

apart from all the bickering most of us do, including myself, about how they legislate environmentalism, it's gotta be a tough task to change everything we do. The fact that a few are able to get away with it just goes to show the golden rule is in affect. So after seeing BP in charge of hiding or shall I say cleaning up their oil they spilled in the Gulf and how that Japan plant was in charge of doing the same to hide their radioactive waste, just goes to show that money buys you privileges not everyone has. Kind of sucks in a way.
