Has any one had exeriance with water applied chrome .or water base chrome such as Alsa exotic paint or MEKKI ,not spray can ,I want to chrome entire truck then spray candy over the chrome ,,any Good OR Bads. Need some advise.

I haven't used it, since I found out some of the difficulties others have encountered... but I can tell you a couple things you should know.

I haven't used it, but it requires that you first do a complete buffed black paint job, before applying the "chrome"... so don't plan on it being easy.

The paint is sensitive enough to repuire using all specially engineered products, so the solvents will not attack the "chrome", causing it to look like metallic silver.

Once you get the candy on it, it will be almost impossible to ever spot repair.

Candy paint jobs are also hard to match, in case you tried to repaint an entire section.

Even though I am a career custom painter, I would not even agree to do it for a customer. That's how much confidence I have in it being very frustrating.

Thanks Jay, ihave been reading few goods several bads,cant paint underhood cannot exceed 150 degrees cannot be sumerged in water more than 2 hrs ,1 company wants buyers of kit to come to japan for training ,others send vodeo and a rep for training ,i have painted House Of Colors for years with great on( most ) had one candy pearl Tangerine i could not repair had to repaint ,luckly on a motorcycle ,i normaly paint it over gold or silver might have to continue until they get better systems ,i want to put candy brandywine over chrome i think it would look great ,nut not willing to sped 8k for system just to see if i like it

When I was at SEMA there was a company doing chrome metallic wraps on cars in all different shades. Red was one of them. They did a demo on a new Chrysler 300. Might be exactly the look you're going for, without all the headache.

Thanks but wrap is not what i need,check out ,new revolutionary chrome playing systems or www-chrome-plating,jp. they have videos of process ,if you havent seen it you need to look . it does require their water not tap water and a mix of 5 chemicals ,and of suposivly Their equipment i want this where i can spray mabe ,house of colours transparent red, over it .the kit they offer is a tint you mix in paint it would not have the effect i am looking for

Since you like to experiment, this might be an option for a candy-like red color.
I recently did a Harley road bike in the 2010 Camaro Synergy green. It uses an unusually brilliant silver base, with a green tint coat on top. That green coat has a pearl mixed in, which MAY make the repairability more likely.

Possibly, you could experiment, and make a red top coat using candy red plus a pearl mixed in, that has a similar effect.

If not, maybe just trying some samples using that silver base... or comparison to the standard basecoat silvers. This silver might give your Brandywine give an even stronger candy-look than you usually get over metallic.

If you aren't familiar with the green, Google the color name for pictures of those Camaros. A few of the photos show the intensity it actually has in bright light.

I've seen the process, it's really neat. I understand that the idea of a car wrap isn't very appealing, but if you haven't looked at what they're capable of, you might want to give it a look. If not, no skin off my nose Here's an example of the Synergy Green Camaro Jay was talking about and a Chrome Green Wrapped BMW.





The look isn't really my cup of tea, but just throwing it out there. Also I'm pretty sure there's an alsa and chrome paint test thread floating around on here. Cboy (Dewey) used it on his suspension of his most recent build as well, if i'm not mistaken.

I like the look of a wrap, but on hot rod tv they did a wrap on a 69 nova project car /race car with a 572 ,you probably remember appox 4 years ago ,they stated it should last up to 3 years since it was not street driven and stored inside ,i saw it couple of months ago it is now Black mlike the original color .the wrap was blue dont know if removed wrap or had yo repaint it thr nova is at a drag race school for students to drive to obtain there race license.

Yeah they aren't nearly as durable as a quality paint job, but I saw the 300 get covered in about an hour. The cool thing is that if you decide that you're tired of red, you can do blue, or green or keep it off and paint it. Repair is easy as just rewrapping the damaged panel. It has it's benefits and negatives.

I agree that it probably wont look as cool as what you're suggesting with paint. I'll look up the Nova, thanks for the heads up!

But if you wraped a dodge or a ford wouldnt you pull the paint off if you tried to remove it??? The stuff I've worked with (removing) was stuck on there pretty well..

I guess it depends the strength of whats underneath. I wouldn't apply a wrap to say, a white 90s chevy truck and expect the paint to not lift when I remove it. From what I understand, the chrome wraps are a bit more difficult to install and remove.

I had a wrapped van come in to get it removed and had to pass on it...I was afraid most of the paint would come off with the vinyl...
