Squealing Brakes

I have a 68 Falcon that I love to drive and get lots and lots of compliments on. My problem is the brakes squeal when I stop (traffic lights, etc.). I want to grab a bag and put over my head it's so embarrassing. What can I do?

loud brakes

Assuming that your brake shoes and drums are in good shape I have seen this happen when brake shoes get glazed over from contaminates getting on the surface of the shoe. Put the car up on jack stands, pull the hubs off, check the wear pattern on the shoe to see if you find anything unusual. If not take some sandpaper and sand the surface of the shoes clean. Wipe the inside of the hub with lacquer thinner, check the adjustment, and re-assemble.
