SR tail light choice opinions

Looking for some thoughts on my choice of tail lights for my 31 chevy sedan street rod.
I would like to use stock ones, however they are EXTREMELY expensive. Close to 500 bucks from the filling station new. And almost as much on ebay used when available and i am out bid. I am thinking of 40 chevy taillights and was wondering if I need to cut a huge hole on my glass fenders to accomodate them . I would rather not as I might want to put in the stock ones at a later time. Ideas or opinions greatly appreciated. Thanx

Bob,
Many after market taillights are available as LED versions now. I'm using a round '53 Pontiac knockoff with the LEDs and as far as holes, only 3. Two ~1/4" for the mounting screws and one ~1/2" for the wires. I also have a pair of the regular style - and they take a huge hole.

Speedway has them at ~115/pair. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/5956...aillights.html

Not sure if your going custom or not but here are a couple more ideas you might like.

Another idea is to check out some of the ones the truckers use as those can be installed nicely (Like Frenched) into a glass Street rod..
