Sray can paintjob questions

I'm gonna be spraying a mini bike frame and tank soon, but I dont have a compressor. So I'm going with the spray can way which I've always used on small projects so far, but they didnt need to look good so I didnt care. It's either gonna be the Duplicolor Metalflake, or their annodized, or their color shifting OR just a nice one solid color generic brand paintjob. Now if I go the duplicolor route I have nothing to worry about, but if I go the generic brand route I have a few questions. The paint is regular spray paint used for spraying wood/metal/plastic etc. not a specific automotive paint. Therefor I assume it's acrylic, right? (same thing as acrylic enamel???? ) Ayways, can I clear coat acrylic? I can buy some clear in can thats a bit expensive but if it'll work nicely on acrylic it's worth it. Can I or can I not? My uncle sprayed his car with acrylic enamel and said it cant have clear coat, thats why I was wondering.

Thanks,

Mike

Krylon makes a clear coat for their paints. I've never used it over paint but I have cleared stained wood with it and it worked ok.

Body, paint and supply stores can make up spray cans with automotive paint. I have bought single and two stage mixes before. The quality is considerably better than the Krylon and or generics.

Mike....I bought a little compressor at CTC for $79 and an airbrush at Princess Auto for about $20. Probably just what you need for painting small parts like that.

I remember years ago in a magazine, there was a guy with an Impala that he did a roses theme on it, totally with spray bombs.....really looked good. I wouldn't expect it to be super smooth though.

I have an intake vent for my furnace in the floor that was pretty ugly. I sprayed it with the same latex house paint as the walls and then rattle canned a couple of coats of clear over it and it's holding up great. After 6 months still no scratches or gouges and thats with people walking on it.

I dont wannan spend too much money on this so for now I'll hold of on the small air compressor deal. I've thought about it before and I'll eventually get a small one for all my small jobs.
What my questions is, can I get some acrylic regular (not latex house paint) paint that's used for spraying plastic/wood/metal and clear it with a spray can clear?

Thanks,

Mike

i use this stuff @ wal mart its like $098 a can it really tuff stuff 4 a elcheapo spray bomb the killer thing about it is that it flashes dry to the touch in less than 10 minuets in 70* above weather and if you use the clear it does a nice job all those others take forever to flash rustoleum takes hours to flash krylon too give it a try on the frame see if ya like it

get er done!

Go to a parts store and look at the Dupli Color Truck and SUV paints. They have all kinds of colors and they have a clear that's designed to work with it.
