"SS"-"454" Emblem Location On Fenders

Hi all, I have a 71 Chevelle just installed new fenders, quarters, doors, new paint and every-thing else, my question is the body-shop scrapped my old fenders before I could measure them, so does anyone know just where the new emblems should be installed on the fenders? Thanks in advance to all.

John

If you cant get a template made off of somebody's else's car then see if they make a factory assembly manual for that car. I have one for my 57 Chevy and it shows measurements where to drill holes for special emblems on special models. The SS would be a special model. The 71 manual may be the same. Also, You might be able to get a template from one the suppliers. Other than that I am not real sure what you can do to get it exact. You can look at pictures of original cars but that may be hard to do. I usually make templates before the old parts are getting tossed if new parts are being installed. Tim

Motorbooks Chevelle SS restoration guide: "The side emblems are where most mistakes occur in restoration,. In 1970 the two S emblems, p/n 3949238, were placed on the front fenders. Below these was the engine call-out badge: 396, p/n 3948030, and 454, p/n 3975410 were used. In 1971 and 1972 the double letters were installed, but the only engine call-out used was the 454.

UNFORTUNATLY BRO, it doesnt say exactly where to put them!!! the pics show it at the center of the space btwn the back of the wheelwell and back of fender, slightly (@2") below the top of the wheelwell line. seems to be the exact same place as a 70. which i know doesnt help you one frikken bit. sorry

but a chevelle site, i think there is such a thing as chevelles.com - i don't know, i sold my 70 back in 89 so have never been, they will probably have a picture of an assembly manual somewhere. if not, an assembly manual will tell you where to put everything, down to the knat'sass.

I seen this template on eBay for mounting SS & displacement emblems. I bought one & it works perfectly! Took less than 5 mintues to lay out both front fenders! Here is a link to it! Good luck!

Ahh, i see you're new to the site. There is a date on the top of each person's response, and you may notice that they're all from 2008, which is 3 years ago.
Welcome, by the way.

Thats what any good shop would do to ....No one throws old parts out until the car is done
