SS stripes on the roof?

Give me your opinion. What do you think about putting SS stripes on the roof? Personally, I rather not just cause I simply don't like it on the roof.

What model are we talking about? I am drawing a blank about an SS with stripes on the roof?

If it's a restoration... and the resale value is important to you, then keep it factory.

It it's non original.... then make yourself happy.

The '74 isn't a highly collectible model. I would do what makes you happy with it.

In my personal opinion Ford's have stripes over the roof, Chevy's on the hood and trunk lid.

In almost every case that I have seen stripes on the roof of a Chevy, they look out of place. Anyone with any history in their head will tend to think the same thing or "what is this guy trying to look like a Mustang".

Case in point, a good friend of mine built a very high dollar '67 Chevelle. He picked a great color for both the primary paint and stripes, the interior, engine bay, etc. was just top notch but he ran the stripes up and over the roof and it really doesn't work. He keeps wondering why, at shows, other cars are going home with trophies that are much less built and I haven't had the heart to tell him it's likely the roof stripes.

Even the 4th Gen Camaro's, which were the first ones to use roof stripes, though they work on that body style, still seem out of place.

Again, like I said, it's MY opinion and to each their own. Your car, do what makes you happy.

I agree, roof stripes on a Chevy don't look right if following the SS hood and rear pattern, they are too large. Only way it works is with the LeMans/Cobra/Viper type double stripe...two smaller size stripes side by side with narrow seperation, runing from under the front bumper to under the rear. Still won't look right on some Chevys though.

'66-67 Chevelle doesn't look right to me with the 68-later stripes as the factory didn't use stripes on those years. Or any stripe.

AMC and Ford have the only good roof factory stripe if you ask me.

Its already painted. No stripes on the roof. I started this thread just to see other peoples opinion. Not suggestions for my car.

73-74 Novas are the next to start climbing in value, been undervalued for a while. Just starting to be a trickle of resto parts coming specific to these cars Hang on to it . You lucky enough to have a hatchback??

A bit of history lesson..In FIA international competition each nation has an assigned color scheme..USA is blue/white so the Ford Cobra's at Lemans had the blue with white racing stripes. Of course the factory picked up on that and started using the racing stripes in various colors as an option.

In my opinion it just depreciates the value. If you have a non-SS, and clone your car to look like an SS...but do it wrong...it would have more value (and look more appealing) if you had left it a non-SS, and just do a clean restoration.

I'd take an original green malibu, with green interior, 307/PG, with hubcaps/whitewalls...over a badly-done cloned-SS, anyday.

But that's just me.

P.S. For the people that make "clones", it's not a "re-creation"...it's a CLONE.

This is the only '74 Nova stripe package I could find. Is this what you meant?

I looked at about 10 different cars. None went over the roof.

I don't think he's talking about his car at all. I think it was just a question about stripes in general. On another note, that stripe package is pretty horrible. Is that really what buyers wanted in 1973?
