Your carb is a bit weak for that motor first off.

If you've got an O2 sensor hook up a multi-meter and see if it's just dumping gas, or leaning out.

My guess would be leaning out. Stick with the Q-jet.

I have heard of this happening with Edelbrock carbs i have always heard of it as a "dead spot" in the pedal. Try a bigger carb or a different brand maybe.

Well it's none of that. The idle adjustment may be set too low and the choke set too high. The choke may be holding the throttle blades open, but when you jab the pedal it clicks it off (of the high idle ratchet tab) and sets down on the idle adjustment screw (that is not turned in far enough) and kills the engine.

Or it could be the distributer weights sticking and bringing up the idle RPM, and when you jab the pedal they unstick and retard the engine, killing it.

carb

It might be where you have the vacuum advance hooked up. try moving it to the other port and see if the problem goes away.
