if the cam range is 2300 to 5500 just as example,on a built bbc,at what low point of a stall can i put in(th400)without choking engine out,or not be able to hold it back at lights etc, have 3400 stall but just not happy with high rpm just to get rolling,(any help)3;42 posi but will be 4:10 in spring.
Wait until after you change the gears and see what it is like, you may not need or want to change then. This is because a torque converter is load sensitive(vehicle wieght vs gearing vs power made), when you swap to deeper rear gears the stall will become lower("tighten up") because car is easier to move(by the engine and converter) with lower gears because of the lower gears greater mechanical advantage to the tire.
This lowering effect will be most noticable at low speeds and small throttle openings, and cruising, but converter will retain most of its stall when mashed WOT from a dead stop.
that seems like good sound advice, thats what i think i will do,thanks.i know the guy that built the engine bout popped a blood vessel when i mentioned a lower stall.thanks again.
